10/11/11 I received a few comments about my post last week...let me be clear here: Steve Jobs and Bill Gates were BOTH early heros of mine; when I built my first IMSAI computer back in 1978, I bought a cassette tape of 'BASIC' from Gates himself at an early computer EXPO in NY, where Micro-Soft was only a card table, a bunch of cassette tapes, and a stack of mimeo'd literature. We know what Microsoft eventually became. Subsequently, after I got into the industry, I also made a pretty decent amount of bred selling Apple II computers. That doesn't mean I approved of what both of these companies eventually became later on...the fact that I only run Ubuntu Linux now speaks for itself. *** 10/06/11 *** R.I.P. Steve Jobs *** One of my heros died yesterday...I was lucky to be in the audience when Steve Jobs introduced a room full of NY & NJ computer dealers to the first Macintosh computer in 1984; the powerful presence of the man and the changes he made to our world have been astounding; one of our few true visionaries has left a precious hole in our time, which will be difficult, if not impossible, to fill. ....R.I.P., Steve... *** 10/03/11 Just made a few cosmetic changes here... other than rehearsals there's nothing much happening around here musically right now, altho Carlos's LFO big-band is sounding great these days...some nice gigs coming up...stay tuned.... I finally finished reading the incredible five-volume George R.R. Martin 'Game of Thrones' collection...outstanding unforgetable characters. Next on the list is Asimov's entire 'Foundation' series...(then maybe some Stephen King...) *** 08/19/11 I just finished reading probably one of the most fun books ever: 'Ready Player One', by Ernest Cline. Anybody that grew up before there was an 'internet' will be in 'geek-heaven'....check it out! (yeah, I'm a geek, and Proud!) *** 07/01/11 Just finishing up some 'set closers' for Carlos' band...they should be fun to play...also working on a few more bossa-novas..I find it a lovely 'groove' to work with. Have a great 4th of July Weekend! *** 05/22/11 It's been a pretty quiet month...spent most of it putting together a nice Antonio Carlos Jobim medley for Carlos's band that will have a few nice sections for Terri to sing... Some guy was busting my chops about 'cloud computing'...I think he was trying to sell me a cloud or something; (if he had a nice one, maybe shaped like a cute little bunny....)!!!
